About

I started working in IT in the early 1990s after a period of unemployment during which time I enrolled on a government retraining scheme for the long term unemployed.

Having learnt the basics of word processing, spreadsheets and a simple database I expanded on this by borrowing a desktop PC from my new employer and experimenting with it.  Later, I learnt some touch typing (using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing) to increase my words per minute speed on the keyboard and to get passed the two fingered typing stage.

When the world wide web became accessible I opened my first account with Compuserve using the software provided on a 3.5 inch disk stuck to the front of a magazine.  The first browser I used was Netscape 1.0.  So began a voyage of discovery involving the Internet, routing, switching, protocols, websites and the online world familiar to billions today.

When I first saw the web in those early days I could see that it would one day be huge but unfortunately I didn't have the prescience to register valuable domain names or start the sort of businesses that have made some individuals a vast  amount of wealth.

However, I did register some domains and built a few websites and the knowledge gained became the bedrock for an online business that is still going strong after fifteen years.
